Whether you prefer a broth filled with veggies or believe the more cheese the better, there’s the perfect bowl of soup for you in these 40+ Best Soup Recipes! Each one is easy to make, too.
What Makes The Best Soup Recipes?
When you think of the most perfect bowl of soup to warm you up in the fall, what do you think of? Here’s what I envision…
- Hearty and filling. That’s why I love soups with potatoes or pasta, protein, and veggies. I want something that’s truly a meal and will keep me full.
- Nourishing. A good soup always includes a few vegetables!
- In-season ingredients. I love when soup uses seasonal ingredients, like sweet potatoes in the fall.
- Easy. The only thing better than a comforting bowl of soup is soup that was easy to throw together!
What To Serve With Soup
While a bowl of soup can often make a meal on its own, I always like to serve it with a side of bread to make sure every bit of broth is soaked right up. Crusty bread is always an easy go-to but depending on the soup, I’ll often whip up a loaf of beer bread or jalapeno cheddar bread. Biscuits are also great, especially for certain chicken soups.
For lunch, I’ll often do a smaller bowl of soup and a salad or sandwich. Grilled cheese will always be #1 for dipping in soup but hot ham and cheese comes in a close second. Or you could try a spin on the classic with a brisket grilled cheese.
Can You Freeze Homemade Soup?
In most cases, yes. Homemade soup is typically ideal for freezing, especially since it usually makes a large amount. All you need to do is allow the soup to cool, transfer to a freezer-safe container, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge and return on the stovetop.
Exceptions to this general rule are cream-based soups, which often don’t freeze well as the dairy separates and can become a bit grainy when thawing. Be sure to check the individual soup recipes for specific instructions.
